Eesti Pank is issuing a two-euro coin in 2027 with a special design dedicated to Hiiumaa. The coin for Hiiumaa, known for its unique landscapes and long maritime traditions, will launch the start of a new series from Eesti Pank dedicated to the counties of Estonia. The series will highlight the variety and cultural uniqueness of the different regions in Estonia.
The design centres on the Kõpu lighthouse, a key landmark on Hiiumaa, against a background of waves on the sea, while the rays of light from the tower mirror the striped patterns of the skirt in the Hiiumaa national costume. The lighthouse is an important part of the identity of the island, symbolising consistency and resilience, and the security of the island as a home.
One million of the two-euro circulating coins dedicated to Hiiumaa will be minted and they will enter circulation through shops. The coin will be issued in 2027 and will be valid as legal tender throughout the euro area.
Second place went to a design by Heino Prunsvelt, and third place to one by Svetlin Georgiev Balezdrov.
